A new innovation of Miss Paraw Regatta 2016 is the Costume Competition featuring Malay-Bornean-inspired attires for the 24 official candidates. As Paraw Regatta Festival pays tribute to the rich history and legend of the “Barter of Panay,” the story of 10 Bornean Datus of Srivijayan Empire who arrived in Panay Island in the 12th century and made a pact with the Aetas in exchange for the lowlands. The Borneans brought with them their culture and fashion. These traditional cultural fashion are worn everyday by their beautiful maidens symbolizing beauty, prestige and grace. Now the 24 candidates of Miss Paraw Regatta 2016 paid tribute by parading in their Malay-Bornean Cultural Costumes showcasing passion, colors and timeless heritage of Western Visayas.
With the vision and advocacy to relive the true cultural identity of the pre-Spanish people of Panay, Miss Paraw Regatta adheres to the genuine tradition and infuses modern artistry in the Cultural Costume Competition that would showcase the timeless legacy and beauty of the 24 official candidates. The competition took place at SM City Iloilo on February 16, 4PM.
